Dispatch

The Communications Center is a critically important part of our life-saving mission. The Emergency Medical Dispatchers who man the phone lines and radios 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year are your very first contact with medical professionals in an emergency situation. They are specially trained to calmly and professionally walk callers through the first steps of providing care before help arrives. Their instruction has led to countless lives being saved before an ambulance even reaches the patient in crisis!
These unsung heroes of EmergyCare handle more than 100,000 calls each year! They are responsible for up to 30 phone lines and 6 radio frequencies at any given time. Dispatchers are masters of multi-tasking! They monitor the positions of more than 20 vehicles at a time, quickly locate and send the closest ambulance to an emergency, all while calming a panicked mother as they walk her through the steps of performing CPR on her child who has stopped breathing. Their voice remains steady, their mind clear, their focus unwavering, leaving us to only imagine the roller coaster of emotions they must experience in a day’s work.
