More on 911 Choice...
Representatives of EmergyCare, Millcreek Twp, Erie County and other interested public safety individuals met today at 10:00 am to discuss 911 choice. Mr. Grossman stated that the initial letter that went out from his office was a proposal, and it was not his intention to cause any issues with the volunteer fire departments throughout the county but that he wanted to insure that patients come first and that the closest ambulance should be sent on all life threatening EMS calls. He feels that the residents of the county should be allowed a choice in their EMS provider for non life threatening calls. Mr. Grossman’s initial position was to allow 911 choice in Millcreek and Erie municipalities only, and not infringe upon the volunteer fire departments or West County.
The meeting ended with Barry Grossman directing Chip Love to call a meeting of the EMS Advisory committee, before mid-May, to discuss the issue and come to a resolution of the issue of the use of a 7-digit number and 911 choice. This consensus of the committee would then be taken before County Council. This meeting was also to be expanded to include those local municipal supervisors or elected officials that wish to participate.
